General Description Of Role
The QA and Automation Engineer is responsible for ensuring the quality, reliability, and performance of applications through a combination of manual testing and automated test development. This role works closely with product owners, business analysts, developers, and DevOps engineers to design test strategies, build and maintain automated test suites, and drive quality practices across the delivery lifecycle.
Job Responsibilities
- Test Planning & Design
- Analyze requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria to define test scenarios and test cases.
- Contribute to test strategies and test plansfor new features, enhancements, and regression testing.
- Identify appropriate candidates for test automation vs manual testing.
- Manual Testing
- Perform functional, integration, regression, and exploratory testingacross web and API layers.
- Log clear, reproducible defects, and work closely with developers to support investigation and resolution.
- Validate fixes and maintain accurate test evidence and documentation.
- Test Automation Development
- Design, develop, and maintain automated test scriptsfor UI, API, and/or backend services using agreed tools and frameworks.
- Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelinesto enable continuous testing.
- Ensure automated suites are reliable, maintainable, and well‑structured(e.g., page object model, reusable components).
- API & Integration Testing
- Create and execute tests for REST/GraphQL APIs, including positive/negative, boundary, and error scenarios.
- Validate data flows and integrationsbetween upstream and downstream systems.
- Use tools like Postman, Swagger, or automation frameworksfor API testing.
- Non‑Functional Testing (as applicable)
- Support or execute performance, load, and basic security checkswhere required.
- Work with DevOps/Platform teams to interpret metrics and identify stability or performance issues.
- Collaboration & Quality Advocacy
- Work closely with developers and BAs in Agile/Scrumteams, participating in refinement, planning, and retrospectives.
- Provide early feedback on requirements and designsfrom a testing perspective.
- Promote quality best practices, including shift‑left testing, testability, and clear acceptance criteria.
- Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain up‑to‑date test cases, automation suites, and test data.
- Provide regular test status, coverage, and defect reportsto the team and stakeholders.
- Contribute to testing standards, guidelines, and knowledge sharingwithin the QA community.
Skills/Competencies Required
- Solid experience in software testing with a strong focus on test automation.
- Hands‑on experience with at least one test automation framework, for example:
- UI: Selenium / Playwright / similar
- API: RestAssured / Postman / similar
- Good understanding of OOP concepts and scripting/programming in one or more languages, e.g.:
- C#, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python (depending on your stack).
- Experience testing web applications and APIs in an enterprise environment.
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools (e.g., Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, etc.) and integrating automated tests into pipelines.
- Strong knowledge of testing types and techniques: functional, regression, integration, smoke/sanity, boundary testing, etc.
- Experience with test management tools (e.g., Azure DevOps, Jira/Xray, TestRail, Zephyr, or similar).
- Good understanding of SDLC and Agile methodologies.
Nice-to-Have
- Experience in Real Estate Insurance / reinsurance / Invoicing / Policy Management.
- Exposure to performance testing tools (e.g., JMeter, Gatling, k6).
- Experience with BDD frameworks (e.g., SpecFlow, Cucumber, Behave).
- Knowledge of SQL for validating data in databases.
- Familiarity with containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud platforms (Azure/AWS/GCP).
