Senior Advanced Embedded Engineer

Avionics Embedded Software Verification & Validation

Experience

10+ years CORE DOMAIN

Avionics V&V ASSURANCE

DO-178B/C

Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Advanced Embedded Engineer to provide technical leadership in the verification and validation of safety-critical avionics embedded software. The successful candidate will shape verification strategies, strengthen common test architectures and environments, advance automation, and support design assurance and certification activities aligned with DO-178B/C. This role combines deep hands-on engineering expertise with stakeholder leadership and a continuous-improvement mindset.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end software verification and validation activities for avionics embedded software, from planning and test strategy through execution, evidence review, closure, and certification support.
  • Define and drive reusable test architectures, environments, methods, tools, and processes that improve consistency, quality, scalability, and engineering efficiency across programs.
  • Interpret and apply DO-178B/C objectives and applicable supplements across planning, verification, traceability, structural coverage, reviews, and certification deliverables.
  • Provide technical direction for embedded software testing using C, C++, Python, embedded programming techniques, and model-based testing approaches.
  • Guide the effective use of debuggers, simulators, target hardware, and structural coverage tools such as VectorCAST/VectorCAST Cover, LDRA, TCA, CodeTest, and TRACE32, as applicable to the program environment.
  • Lead technical reviews, resolve complex verification issues, influence engineering decisions, and identify practical solutions that balance compliance, quality, schedule, and product needs.
  • Partner with stakeholders within and outside the organization, communicating technical risk, evidence, recommendations, and improvement opportunities with clarity and credibility.
  • Drive test methodology innovation and test-design automation, including responsible exploration of AI/ML-enabled opportunities where they provide measurable engineering value.
  • Ideate and lead Velocity Product Development (VPD) initiatives to improve productivity and reuse.
  • Contribute to change impact analysis, tool qualification, Test Readiness Reviews (TRR), Release for Software (RFS) activities, certification documentation, and SOI #3 audit readiness, as required.
  • Mentor engineers, promote disciplined engineering practices, and foster a culture of technical excellence, accountability, learning, and continuous growth.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in software development, systems engineering, software verification, or a related area, including at least 5 years of hands-on software verification and validation experience.
  • Strong knowledge of avionics concepts, engineering processes, and the verification and validation of embedded software.
  • Deep understanding of DO-178B/C design assurance, including planning and certification processes, with working knowledge of applicable supplements.
  • Very good programming and scripting skills in C, C++, and Python, with practical experience in embedded programming and model-based testing.
  • Demonstrated experience establishing or improving common test architectures, environments, strategies, tools, and processes.
  • Hands-on experience with debuggers, simulators, and structural coverage analysis tools used in embedded or avionics software programs.
  • Proven technical leadership, stakeholder management, communication, and influencing skills, including the ability to guide decisions without relying solely on authority.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of cockpit display products and the broader avionics product lifecycle.
  • Knowledge of DO-178B/C and model based design for cockpit display products.
  • Experience with change impact analysis, including RA and DRAT; tool qualification; TRR; RFS; certification documentation; and SOI #3 audits.
  • Experience applying automation to verification workflows, test design, evidence generation, analysis, or reporting.
  • Awareness of emerging AI/ML technologies and the judgment to identify appropriate, governed applications within engineering workflows.
  • A track record of identifying technical improvements and converting ideas into sustainable engineering practices.

Leadership Attributes

  • Highly motivated, curious, and proactive, with a passion for exploring opportunities and translating them into robust solutions.
  • A systems thinker who can connect product, software, verification, certification, and business considerations.
  • Clear and concise communicator who can engage engineers, program leaders, customers, and certification stakeholders.
  • Committed to technical rigor, collaboration, mentorship, and continuous improvement.
